Everything's More Fun In Pigtails!
2004-01-19 || They Make Good TV Here

Today was a living testament to just how much I love TV. Well, it's more of a testament to how much I love one certain show, but it all comes back around to the fact that I do love me some TV. It also reminds me that I may need to get out of the house more.

I went on a mini-road trip today. A few weeks ago I came up with the idea to do this, and somehow convinced my mom to come along. I must have caught her in a moment of weakness or something. In any event, I figured I'd plan it for today since I had the day off and nothing else to do. So this morning I gathered up the sock, some snacks and CDs and we hit the road around 10:30. While driving through Connecticut, I noticed a sign along the highway that I have never seen anywhere before. It was a pretty big yellow sign that read in big, bold black letters: DO NOT STOP. CORRECTIONAL FACILITY AREA. Wow. I've never even heard of such a thing. And are there a lot of jailbreaks in southern Connecticut? Also, do they house a lot of maniacs in their prisons? Is that where the worst of the worst go? Connecticut? Maybe it's the new Alcatraz. Just with such a bad security system that the highway patrol actually has to put up blaring yellow signs warning motorists of dangerous fugitives. WTF?

Not long after that weirdness, we stopped off at one of the many off-ramp McDonald's to grab a bite. I sensed someone staring at me while I was eating and looked up to find the spitting image of Crazy Joe Davola. The opening strains of Pagliacci immediately started playing in my head and I pictured him calling me 'Netta.' Thankfully, he finished up and skulked out a few minutes later. But it was creeeeepy. Finally, we got back on the road again and headed towards our final destination.

Now when most people think of the phrase "road trip," they probably associate it with something wild and crazy leading to Vegas or Atlantic City, or even something more intellectual and bohemian like Kerouac. Some may even conjure up images of a Tom Green film. But not me. No Vegas, no Atlantic City, hell - not even Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun, which I passed along the way. My road trips are much more simple. 3 hours - 4 states - 1 Joe Davola sighting - all leading up to one simple place....

STUCKEYBOWL!!!! Woo!! Grand Canyon? Meh. Niagara Falls? [yawn] But LOOK, I'm at Stuckeybowl!!

So yeah, I love my TV. I LOVE my Ed. And I need a life.

CD Pick of the Day: Foo Fighters, There is Nothing Left to Lose
In honor of today's road trip, I had to pick this one just for the inclusion of Next Year on it. But basically take your pick of any of the other Foo Fighters stuff. It's all good. And Dave Grohl? Yum.
